aluminum

Non-porous and receptive to temperature, aluminum is not a common sex toy material, but a few items are made out of it — notably, Crowned Jewels toys, Tantus’ Alumina series, Big Teaze Toys’ now defunct Dai-Do series, and the failtastic Jimmyjane Little Chroma.

Review: Doxy Massager (Die Cast) and The Don

Doxy Don (left) and Doxy Die Cast with Nuzzle Tip attachment (right). Put it on my clit. Now. That’s what ran through my head the first time I held the Doxy Don, standing in the hallway at a conference with it reverberating in my hands. I’d never seen or heard about the product in my life, but in a split second I wished it upon my genitals. Although I often make snap judgments about toys, they’re usually negative ones based on stomach-turningly buzzy vibrations. This was the opposite: the vibrations were so deliciously rumbly, so promising. I’d never tried a toy from Doxy before, and I knew The Don had to be my first. But I couldn’t rightfully review only The Don, considering Doxy’s reputation as manufacturers of the much-loved Doxy Massager. Somehow, . . . read more

Review: Little Chroma

The Jimmyjane Little Chroma is a scam. Not like your friend emailing you in distress because they’re stranded in London. Not like replying to a Craigslist post about an apartment only to have the nice folks offer to mail you the key from West Africa. Not like someone making nasty things about you on Twitter. But in the simple, old school way: Jimmyjane tries to swindle you into buying the Little Chroma. And I want to intervene. No, need to intervene. I really can’t stand this shit anymore. Jimmyjane knows the importance of marketing, and they use it to make the Little Chroma look mighty tasty. It’s made of aluminum — shiny and smooth and shaped like a luxury tampon. It comes with a replaceable motor, . . . read more

After a long masturbation session, the kitchen counter usually looks something like this: Left to right: Alumina Motion/Revolve hybrid, Dual-Sided Swirled Rib, Xtreme Pack, Cobalt Twister, Gold Ribbed Love Wand, Alumina Motion/Revolve hybrid This was taken in December of 2008, though, when I was on a glass dildo kick, and when my Xtreme Pack had not yet been usurped by the Eroscillator, et al. Also, I’m not sure why things are lined up so neatly. That is not normal.

Postcards from the Peanut Gallery: Alumina Motion

Ah, the Tantus Alumina Motion. One of my favorite dildos. I gave one away in my blogiversary blowout, to an awesome guy by the name of Jaye Valentine. Jaye is always tweeting about the Motion — even singing to me about it — and it always makes me smile. I asked Jaye to elaborate on his and his partner’s experiences with the Motion, and boy did he! When asked what defines sex-toy happiness for me these days, I have only three words: TANTUS ALUMINA MOTION. I won this toy during Epiphora’s one-year blog anniversary and seriously, this toy is my butt’s newest, bestest friend. When my partner (Hi, Reno!) wields this toy, you can bet on three things happening: a) . . . read more

Review: Alumina Pace

Review: Alumina Pace

After my disappointing experience with California Exotic’s aluminum butt plugs, Metis Black (president of Tantus) offered to send me Tantus’s take on an aluminum plug: the Alumina Pace. Considering my close bond with my Alumina Motion and Revolve (especially the Motion, which is my warm-up lover), I had to say yes. Aluminum is an amazing material, no doubt about that — it is incredibly receptive to temperature, it’s nonporous (and thus easily sterilized), and it’s weighty but not too weighty. I love it in my vagina, and I’m sure I could love it in my ass. But after thorough testing of the Pace, I have come to this unfortunate conclusion: my anatomy and the Pace don’t get along. And it’s . . . read more

Review: Aluminum Mini 3" and 4"

Review: Aluminum Mini 3″ and 4″

There are two surprising things about California Exotic’s Aluminum Mini butt plugs. First, uh, they’re made of aluminum, and since when does CE consider that a valid material? And second, each one comes in fairly non-offensive packaging — a small black box with a plastic covering. No naked ladies on the cover; instead, the word “MINI” looks like the Lost DVD logo. Inside the black box, there is… wait for it… a bed of black satin. Yes, njoy-style. But it’s still California Exotic, and I am reminded of this by the not-exactly-awesome construction of these butt plugs. The silver aluminum is fine, but there are visible horizontal lines all over it. The jewel in the base, which apparently is lavender . . . read more

Review: Dai-Do #4

Review: Dai-Do #4

It seems that aluminum is the new “it” material. At first glance, however, the Dai Do #4 doesn’t appear to be made of aluminum — it looks like a modern plastic vibrator. Pick it up, however, and its weightiness gives away its material. When I handed it to my boyfriend, he tried to unscrew the end; but no, the Dai Do #4 doesn’t vibrate. This thing is all dildo. The Dai Do #4 comes in a shiny black cardboard box, but unlike the Onye or Tuyo, it doesn’t come with a storage box. Instead, it comes with a simple satin drawstring bag, which is strangely 4 1/2 inches longer than it needs to be to hold the 7″ Dai Do . . . read more

Review: Alumina Revolve & Motion

Tantus has long been known for its amazing pure silicone toys, but their new Alumina line of aluminum dildos is a new breed entirely. If you are like me, and the word “aluminum” makes you think of a can of Surge, stop right there. This is beautiful, soft, brushed aluminum like you would find on metal picture frames or nice kitchenware. It can be sterilized using the same methods as silicone. According to the booklet that comes with each dildo, this is “aeronautic grade” aluminum, so it must be good, and the aluminum is anodized, which strengthens corrosion and wear resistance. I don’t really know what “aeronautic grade” means, but I can tell you that the aluminum feels amazing. It . . . read more
