Review: Candy Stick

Papaya Toys Candy Stick

Things that I like: green toys, toys that look like ice cream. But I’ve tried one before, the Fun Factory Twister, and it was a bit of a flop. More than anything else, the dial base was finicky, and the battery compartment was non-intuitive. These issues can make any green-colored and ice cream-shaped toy instantly uncool.

And conversely, a well-designed battery compartment and set of controls can make a green-colored and ice cream-shaped toy instantly cool. And so it is with the Candy Stick from up-and-coming Papaya Toys. While the Candy Stick may not be the most amazing toy to ever touch my vagina, it is definitely a solid one, both in construction and in sensation. In fact, it is one of the best insertable vibrators I’ve tried in a long time.

The Candy Stick comes in a hot pink cardboard box with minimal information on it. It comes with instructions, but no batteries (it takes 2 AAs). It has a faint out-of-the-box smell, but nothing abnormal. At 10″ long (nearly 6 1/2″ insertable) and 1 3/4″ in diameter, the Candy Stick is a bit of a beast. It is bigger than any ice cream cone you’ve probably ever had. It’s made of 100% silicone and has a soft matte texture to it. The shaft does not bend much (only at the very tip), as it has a stiff core.

Fiddling with the battery compartment, I quickly realized how much better this one is than most battery compartments (I’m looking at you, Fun Factory… and California Exotic… and a lot of others…). It screws off easily and requires no squeezing, pulling, pushing, or boyfriend power. There’s an O-ring inside to ensure waterproofness. The batteries go into a removable barrel. The cap screws back on securely.

And best of all, there is a rubbery texture to the plastic base for slip resistance. People at Papaya Toys? You are geniuses. This is what vibrators are missing.

Oh, and you know what else vibrators are often missing? Control of vibration strength. The Candy Stick only has three vibration settings (constant, medium pulsation, and a long-short-short-short pulsation), but each setting’s strength can be increased and decreased. Does that excite you like it does me? I am not a fan of really intense vibrations in my vagina, so I like either no vibration or very light vibration. The Candy Stick’s range of vibration goes from barely noticeable to a decent hum. And it never gets loud.

Did I mention that the buttons click satisfyingly? And that it turns off with one click? And that it remembers what setting you were on?

It’s easy to drown this review in praise for all the little things that make the Candy Stick awesome, but the way it feels in my vagina seals the deal. It is thick and fairly stiff — perfect for the tail end of my masturbation sessions. It is the big kahuna. I can’t feel the swirls, really, but that’s okay. Fill my vag up with the Candy Stick, and I am happy as a clam.

So, superb vibrator. Better than most. Bright green and rad. But it’s still a vibrator, meaning it can’t be boiled or put in the dishwasher to sterilize, right? Wrong. IT CAN BE. Yes. The higher-ups informed me that, after removing the battery barrel and securing the base, the Candy Stick can be swished in boiling water or stuck in the top rack of the dishwasher (no heated drying cycle) to sterilize. Considering manufacturers pretty much never recommend this for vibrators, I have a feeling the people at Papaya Toys know what they’re talking about. And I am quite impressed.

I’d be lying if I said the bright green wasn’t a factor, but all the thoughtful touches really elevate the Candy Stick above most vibrators. I can’t even remember the last time an insertable vibrator impressed me like this. A pat on the back for you, Papaya Toys!
